Imagination is an ability! It is an ability to form or create ideas and images in the mind, especially of things never seen or experienced directly before. It is also the creative part of the mind where thoughts, ideas and images are formed.
Ever since I was a very small child, I was fascinated by everything around me that was made. When I was two years old, I lived in an aluminum Quonset hut in Guam. When we moved into a real house, I was delighted to have glass windows that I could see out of. I thought it was a great idea!
Then I looked around and thought everything here is made by someone with an idea my bed, my lamp, my table, my sheets, my pillow. Eventually, I thought I could make things myself so I made a little doll house out of small wooden crates and all sorts of little cardboard boxes!
I loved everything about creating things myself! I did incredibly well in the many art classes I took in high school and at the university. I enjoyed studying woodblock printmaking at the university I attended in Japan and was immersed in taking paper, ink and a piece of wood then turning it into something beautiful.
Later in life, I came across an interesting quote that I put up on my wall and looked at every day “One’s ability to imagine is directly proportional to one’s ability to be successful.” wrote L. Ron Hubbard. Now I have created thousands of pieces of art!! As an observer could see, I believe in abundance! That is why many of my installations have more than fifty pieces and several contain 1,000 pieces such as my “1000 Prayers for Compassion” installation.
If I had one piece of advice to give, it would be this: It is YOU who imagines your future. It is you who creates your future. So THINK BIG! My life is dedicated to uplifting, inspiring, educating and helping others to appreciate the freedom and beauty that surrounds us. Can you imagine going to bed each night with a deep sense of serenity? Can you imagine waking up each morning feeling deeply grateful? YOU CAN! Just use your imagination!
